Beaches

When it comes to the topic of beaches, nothing beats Gran Canaria has one of the most exquisite beaches in the world; an abundance of this spectacular gift of nature - clear blue waters with a shoreline of fine golden sands that sparkle in the sunshine.

In Gran Canaria, almost all of the beaches have white sand and quite a number of them are completely one of a kind. Around 60 of the 236 kilometers of Gran Canaria´s coastline consist of beaches of various types, ranging from the remarkable Maspalomas beach, with 250 hectares of sand dunes right next to the sea, to the secret beach of Güigüi, and the bustling beaches in the capital, like the Las Canteras beach.

And what’s so incredible about the beaches in this place is that they are great in whatever season. Winter or summer, you can still take out your swim wear and enjoy the cool salty waters. This is because Gran Canaria has the distinct characteristic of having more hours of sunshine in a year, unlike much of the rest of the world. The pleasant climate and agreeable temperatures of the bathing waters is therefore sustained all throughout the year, ranging between 18ºC during winter months and 22ºC during the rest of the year.

In addition, the beaches are also popular for their transparent waters, cleanliness and excellent facilities -- all this in a breathtaking backdrop of unspoiled landscapes.

Despite its popularity, some of the beaches can still promise you privacy especially since there are several small coves and nudist beaches. Most are situated on the south coast of the island and are completely reliable. The primary beaches are located along the sunniest and driest part of the island in the southern part.

So, what are you waiting for? The endless kilometers of golden or white sand and quiet coves are right here! Browse through the list of magnificent beaches below, sure to excite you into plunging in the perpetually inviting waters that only the island of Gran Canaria can ever boast of.
Maspalomas has fine white sand at a length of 6 kilometers and a width of up to 1 kilometer. Along the beach are several oases with lovely palms and a freshwater lake. Surrounding the beach are modern hotel complexes and sports installations, in addition to the Gran Canaria island's most important sports harbor, Pasitoblanco.

Playa del Inglés, next to Maspalomas in length, has a stretch of 2.700 meters of light sand. Considered as one of the famous beaches of the archipelago, it is complete with contemporary hotels and entertainment avenues.

San Agustín is the beach primarily known to offer a quieter and more relaxing venue.

Playa de Patalavaca meanwhile is a great beach that is ideal for sport fishing.

Puerto Rico is a more contemporary one, with hotels, apartments and a nifty harbor complete with sports installations.

Costa de Bañaderos has handsome landscapes and small bays, while Galdar is the beach with a fantastic high coast.

Sardina del Mar is a scenic beach not only for swimming and sun bathing, it also has a fishing village.
