Santa Catalina

If you happen to find yourself within the vicinity of the harbor Puerto de la Luz in the east and the charming Playa de las Canteras in the west, you will come across the thriving metropolitan district known as Santa Catalina . And if you consider shopping as one of your favorite pastimes, you will undoubtedly regard this city as a shopping paradise! A very good place to go in Santa Catalina would be the Calle Mesa y López . It is a well-appointed boulevard where several of the spacious and impressive stores are situated. You can also find there two branches of what is considered to be Spain s biggest department store chain, the El Corte Inglés . Or if you are after specialty shops and designer boutiques, Calle Mesa y López has an abundant supply of them too!

Of course, you can t possibly contemplate ending your visit to Santa Catalina without first stopping by its lively and very vibrant Parque Santa Catalina . Actually, if facts must be faced, it is actually more inclined to look like a square complimented by palm trees and different kinds of flowers than a real park. Nevertheless, for those party-goers who are so into nightlife, this is the place to be! In fact, Parque Santa Catalina has become a byword for most of Las Palmas parties and happenings. You are sure to have a very wide selection of restaurants, bars, cafés and everything else you need to party the night away! Many residents and visitors frequent the place until dawn, so you will surely be in no hurry to leave anytime soon.

If you are not a night owl, however, there are still plenty of things you can do at the Parque Santa Catalina during the day. Shopping is always a great way to while away the time, is it not? Or you can also try one of the many outdoor cafes the place has. If you like people watching, you will likely not run out of persons to observe. For one thing, you can pass by the groups of elderly gentlemen playing board games such as chess, dominos and cards. You can also watch the steady flow of tourists dropping by the Casa de Tourismo for assistance -- or you can also join them at the booth if you yourself have any questions. By now your feet must be killing you with all the walking you have done so far. If that is the case, you may want to check out the quaint horse-drawn cabs that thrive in the place. And while you re at it, a little sightseeing tour wouldn t hurt, would it? If all of those we enumerated are still not enough, then we suggest you cap off your visit with the carnival that is regularly held at Santa Catalina ! You can marvel at the impressive stage set up, and drive yourself crazy riding just almost any kind of ride you can imagine.

After all the activities you have occupied yourself with, a little peace and quiet will certainly be a welcome solace, don t you think so? So if you want to soak up a relaxed and somber atmosphere, go ahead and indulge yourself in the Museo Elder . It is a notable and well-appointed science and technology museum, with its building previously owned by the Elder - Dempster Shipping Line. It can also be noted that that is where the name of the museum was derived. Many of the Museo Elder s visitors are engaged for hours on end, with many things to see and do. There is even an ample supply of interactive exhibits to keep just about everyone -- even children -- entertained while learning. For instance, you can find there an industrial robot that does its own welding in an automobile, or an IMAX cinema, to mention a couple of them.
If you ve finally decided to call it a day at long last, we suggest you check out the Muelle Santa Catalina before doing so. It is a quaint ferry terminal that connects you with other towns such as Tenerife . The terminal is situated on the southern side of the Avenida Marítima del Norte .
